"The world is not a lodging-house at Brighton, which we are to leave because it is miserable. It is the fortress of our family, with the flag flying on the turret, and the more miserable it is the less we should leave it."
-G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
This here blog is a glimpse or two or three at the condition of the 'fortress of our family' through the eyes Timothy Goddard, a Christian writer with an unhealthy interest in politics living in the Puget Sound area.
Lord of the Rings with a clear conscience After some fairly inane and uninformed comments by Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) and Karl Urban (Eomer) recently (and to warn you, the article linked to is doubly, trebly as inane as the comments themselves), thinking of the Lord of the Rings movies with an eye on world issues with a clear conscience has been difficult. But, thanks to Sofia Slideshow, I now know that John Rhys Davies has redeemed them all!
I suspected as much when I heard somewhere (possibly on the extended DVD for Fellowship?) that JRD and Ian McKellan would have huge debates over politics and whatnot. Guessing McKellan's politics was easier than JRD's, but I'm glad to have my suspicions confirmed.
