"The world is not a lodging-house at Brighton, which we are to leave because it is miserable. It is the fortress of our family, with the flag flying on the turret, and the more miserable it is the less we should leave it."
-G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
This here blog is a glimpse or two or three at the condition of the 'fortress of our family' through the eyes Timothy Goddard, a Christian writer with an unhealthy interest in politics living in the Puget Sound area.
Lincoln heads home, weary from freeing another oppressed people The USS Abraham Lincoln is headed home! Finally! Home for the Lincoln (motto, appropriately: "Shall not perish."), if you're curious, is also home to me--Everett, Washington. An aunt used to be stationed on the Lincoln, and so I once had the opportunity to go on a pleasure cruise around the Puget Sound on it once--truly a remarkable experience. And a remarkable ship. We got to see planes take off and land from it as well. It was great. And now, it finally gets to go home, after nine months of a six month deployment. It will be good to see the ship from the steps of my church again I think, but am not sure, that there are people on the Lincol who attend--when they're not busy fighting wars. It's a wonderful landmark. I very nearly put a picture of it in the banner, actually. This one here, of the Lincoln docked in Everett, will have to do. If you squint really hard, you can see my church.
And speaking of pictures, USS Clueless has a beautiful cartoon starring the Lincoln.
