"The world is not a lodging-house at Brighton, which we are to leave because it is miserable. It is the fortress of our family, with the flag flying on the turret, and the more miserable it is the less we should leave it."
-G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
This here blog is a glimpse or two or three at the condition of the 'fortress of our family' through the eyes Timothy Goddard, a Christian writer with an unhealthy interest in politics living in the Puget Sound area.
No fear here The media has recently been proving that old habbits die hard, no matter how bad a habit it may be. The particular habit that the media is making no apparent effort to break is that of claiming that "fear" is the cause of recent precautions taken against terrorism. This is ridiculous.
I've never heard a single person say that they are literally afraid of a terrorist attack, let alone any policy maker. Saying that flights are being canceled or that snipers are being put on rooftops during New Year's Eve celebrations because of fear is like saying that we wear seatbelts out of fear. We are fully capable of taking precautions without doing so out of fear. It would be nice if the media could recognize this.
