"The world is not a lodging-house at Brighton, which we are to leave because it is miserable. It is the fortress of our family, with the flag flying on the turret, and the more miserable it is the less we should leave it."
-G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
This here blog is a glimpse or two or three at the condition of the 'fortress of our family' through the eyes Timothy Goddard, a Christian writer with an unhealthy interest in politics living in the Puget Sound area.
"Global battle" vs. "war" Like Instapundit, I was curious about what John Kerry had to say in regards to the Madrid bombings. And, like Instapundit, I expected it to get a top billing, and so didn't find it at first.
The low level of attention given to this event could say one of many things (he doesn't care, he doesn't want to draw connections between the terror and his foreign policy, he doesn't want to politicize it, etc.), but something in there is mighty telling. He avoids the term "war on terror," having recently described himself as "uncomfortable" with that term. So what does he say instead? "Global battle against terror." Would someone mind explaining the difference?
