"The world is not a lodging-house at Brighton, which we are to leave because it is miserable. It is the fortress of our family, with the flag flying on the turret, and the more miserable it is the less we should leave it."
-G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
This here blog is a glimpse or two or three at the condition of the 'fortress of our family' through the eyes Timothy Goddard, a Christian writer with an unhealthy interest in politics living in the Puget Sound area.
Once more on the gas tax A final thought on the gas tax. I mention below that Bush is making a big deal out of this issue because it's relatively minor, but maintains the image of Kerry as a high-taxing, out of touch liberal--there is plenty of time to bring up more important things. But this criticism also inocculates Bush from Kerry's (pathetic) attempts to somehow blame Bush for the current high gas prices. I doubt that this would be effective anyhow, but Bush's response--which came so quick that it's more of a preemtive strike--is an effective one.
