The Flag of the World

-G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy

This here blog is a glimpse or two or three at the condition of the 'fortress of our family' through the eyes Timothy Goddard, a Christian writer with an unhealthy interest in politics living in the Puget Sound area.

Putting my foot in it
The interesting thing about posting about popular Internet searches is that you can quickly become their target. I'm now apparently the ninth Google result for "the video of nick berg's decapitation," and by posting that, I probably jumped up another spot or two. Interestingly enough, #6 is a post from Instapundit, also talking about how popular Nick Berg searches are. I'm also in the top ten for a couple other varations on that phrase, all using the term "decapitation," which is apparently not as popular as the term "beheading," which Lorraine used in her post, but which has not gained us any hits.

But before I drive myself up even farther in the decapitation standings (d'oh, there I go again), let me say something to anyone coming here looking for that video:

Why are you here? Are you here because you just want to see a guy get his head cut off, because you think it'd be cool to see? If so, you've got problems. Seriously, that's a pretty messed up thing to do. Go home and think about it.

Are you here because you want to convince yourself what a terrible thing Bush has done in going to war? In that case, maybe you should watch this video instead. It's a lot like the Berg video. An innocent American in the Middle East--who just happens to be Jewish--is kidnapped and killed brutally on camera. Only one thing is different: this was well before the Iraq war. You see, Al Qaeda never has, and never will be, shy about murdering Americans. If you're an American, they wouldn't be shy about murdering you either.

If you're here because you want to see for yourself why it is we fight this war--the War on Terror, of which the War in Iraq is a single part--or are unsure of what particular political reaction you're going to have to the video, then check a few posts down. I'm not going to link it from this post, though--I don't want the sickos from two paragraphs up to find it.
