"The world is not a lodging-house at Brighton, which we are to leave because it is miserable. It is the fortress of our family, with the flag flying on the turret, and the more miserable it is the less we should leave it."
-G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
This here blog is a glimpse or two or three at the condition of the 'fortress of our family' through the eyes Timothy Goddard, a Christian writer with an unhealthy interest in politics living in the Puget Sound area.
Why the press should be worried but isn't I caught a few snippets of Rumsfeld in Iraq today. Lots of press sources have mentioned Rumsfeld's line "I’ve stopped reading newspapers.” Far fewer of them have mentioned the thunderous applause the troops the gave him. Compare 345 Google News hits for "I’ve stopped reading newspapers" to a scant eight for "I’ve stopped reading newspapers" + applause.
This is a problem for the press, though I haven't heard a single member of the press even recognize it.
