"The world is not a lodging-house at Brighton, which we are to leave because it is miserable. It is the fortress of our family, with the flag flying on the turret, and the more miserable it is the less we should leave it."
-G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
This here blog is a glimpse or two or three at the condition of the 'fortress of our family' through the eyes Timothy Goddard, a Christian writer with an unhealthy interest in politics living in the Puget Sound area.
A McCain gem
Both McCain's speech and Giuliani's speech from last night have been analyzed at length already by others, so I won't bother. If you haven't read them, go do so: McCain's and Giuliani's. No one has noted my favorite line from McCain's speech, though, so I'd like to bring it to your attention:
"While this war has many components, we can't make victory on the battlefield harder to achieve so that our diplomacy is easier to conduct." --Senator John McCain, August 30, 2004
