"The world is not a lodging-house at Brighton, which we are to leave because it is miserable. It is the fortress of our family, with the flag flying on the turret, and the more miserable it is the less we should leave it."
-G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
This here blog is a glimpse or two or three at the condition of the 'fortress of our family' through the eyes Timothy Goddard, a Christian writer with an unhealthy interest in politics living in the Puget Sound area.
You heard it here first
I'm very pleased to see that, while I was away, the discrepancy between Kerry's various Cambodia stories, which I noted just before I left, has blown into a full-fledged kerfuffle. Powerline, Hugh Hewitt and the Kerry Spot are covering all the action, which is slowly but surely spilling out into the mainstream media.
I expect this will eventually hit with the full force of Al Gore's "invented the Internet" story, but with more impact, as Kerry has hung his entire campaign on his Vietnam story. As it becomes clear that he has told one untruth--on the Senate floor, no less--regarding his Vietnam experience, it will become more and more likely to undecided voters that there might be something to the other charges of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.
Gradually, the story will gain more and more traction, and eventually Kerry himself will be trapped into talking about it. Chances that he will be able to talk his way out of it are slim to none, and his discussion of it will open it up as a topic of legitimate conversation. This will be the beginning of the end. You will know that Kerry is officially done for when the topic has become so legitimate that Bush makes a joke about it in a speech. Should it reach that point, Kerry will be dead in the water.
