The Flag of the World

-G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy

This here blog is a glimpse or two or three at the condition of the 'fortress of our family' through the eyes Timothy Goddard, a Christian writer with an unhealthy interest in politics living in the Puget Sound area.

Further evidence that Kerry is done
Lorraine's Political Adage #17: When your politics can be dissected and discarded by a 12-year-old, you're cooked.

As an experiment, I showed this week's Toles cartoon from US News and World Report to my 7th graders, expecting to lead a basic discussion of this year's election. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Rabidly Republican, my students pounced on Kerry like a murder of crows on fresh possum tartare. They turned out to be suprisingly able political analysts, concluding that President Bush would win re-election by a landslide, because Democratic economic and social policies are doomed to failure. They articulated in great detail the various failings of John Kerry, the senator, John Kerry, the candidate, and the Democratic Party in general. The only problem was a brief discussion on whether being a "flip-flopper" was the same thing as being a liar, and whether this was better or worse than being unpatriotic. Or, as one of them put it, "John Kerry is a bad man."

I see great hope for the future of America.

This is indeed a good thing, if widespread--which I suspect it is. On the other side of the aisle, I'm afraid that all the mini-Dems out there are getting is a few variations on "Bush is evil!" Going up against conservatives who have been shredding liberal dogma since they were 12 will be a tall order for the unfortunate souls raised on that sort of pap.
